Meet some of our bright and talented individuals.

Chris Vanderlit Chris Vanderlit Senior Field Project Manager

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you? Every day is different, but usually about 70% of my tasks are planned, 30% are ad hoc tasks. Every day I will carry out checks on our data that has been collected the day before and track our fieldwork. Human resource planning also forms a big part of what I do: the key is working out the best mix of interviewers that will be most efficient.  I also prepare reports that help us continuously improve on our processes and efficiencies.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?Working in an Operations Centre is always exciting. It’s a very dynamic working environment where change is the only constant! Plan, plan, plan is the key to what we do, but we also need to be flexible enough to overcome any obstacles that come along. I also enjoy seeing my team members succeed: working through the discomfort of learning new skills, and applying them successfully to achieve the results they’re striving for.

Describe what excellence means to you.Never settling for the status quo: always striving to find better and more efficient ways of doing things.

David Claridad David Claridad Senior Project Manager

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you? A typical day at DBM is one where you plan what is required of you and you are able to stick to the schedule. With good planning the tasks stay that way. But it's those atypical ones that are interesting. It's those days where the tasks you intend to do at the start of the day differ from what you end up getting done at close of play. It's those problems that arise and get solved, re priorities that are addressed, and communicating efficiently and effectively that are exciting.

What do you enjoy most about what you do? I enjoy being busy. The more work given to me, the better -- just not too much work though!

Describe what excellence means to you.Excellence means being a one-stop shop for your colleagues and clients. They can come to you and tap you on the shoulder, and later turn around satisfied, whether that's immediately after the phone call or at the end of the day, week, month or year.

David King David King Team Leader

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you? I’d say no day is ‘typical’... As the Team Leader for the Innovations team, I work with my team to develop the more technical aspects of report automation and interactivity.  We play a part in the design, functionality, and overall look and feel of the Excel, PowerPoint and online reports, as this is just as important as what happens in the back-end. Each report we develop is different and I like being able to continuously improve on efficiencies and problem solve for better solutions.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?The challenge of developing innovations and the opportunity to explore new technologies and techniques to assist in the production and functionality of what we deliver to our clients.

Describe what excellence means to you.Excellence is rising to challenges that you confront.

Fiona Purcell Fiona Purcell Senior Project Manager

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you? In my role, no day is typical! My work day starts with coffee and going over fieldwork reports from interviews conducted the night before and following up with emails if needed. It’s then straight into it – such as setting up a new project, putting together a report for a client or attending a morning meeting. It’s normally just before lunch that an extra juggling ball is thrown into the mix: it may be an urgent client request or getting pulled on another project. At that point, my computer’s taskbar resembles the foundations of a giant lego building with blocks of every type consuming the narrow strip. Slowly, one window is closed after another as my day wraps up and I revise my plan ready for the next day.

What do you enjoy most about what you do? That no day is the same, no job is the same. From the clients that may need guidance and being able to satisfy them with what works best, to sharing pieces from the past with new ideas. It keeps my brain fresh and alert. But you can't do it alone – you work with some very awesome, like-minded people across the company, many from different disciplines.

Describe what excellence means to you.Excellence is top of your class and unsurpassed.

John Remington John Remington Senior Project Manager

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you?A typical day involves a lot of analysis: sometimes the client requests come in frequently, but with careful management of their expectations, a typical day consists of tackling their problems, and guiding and advising them through, using the data at hand.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?Digging into the data, extrapolating the meaning of the numbers, and finding the story underneath it all.

Describe what excellence means to you.Being able to work through a problem and find the best solution.

Mandy Penman Mandy Penman Coding Manager

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you? My day starts and finishes the same way; planning, problem solving, personnel management, reviewing and recording results, and coding. All of this at a pace that keeps me close to my desk and computer.

What do you enjoy most about what you do? I like the times of quiet at my desk with time to think. I like seeing the jobs complete and knowing that we have achieved our goals for the month.

Describe what excellence means to you. This is the aim of every task we set out to do. Working together across systems and various departments and achieving excellence is a team effort. It is always a work-in-progress though and sometimes things are sent to test us.

Manish Kher Manish Kher Senior Data Analyst

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you? I establish a priority list of things to accomplish based on automation for clients and each department. There are urgent tasks that are first priority; planned and proposed deliveries that are second priority; and tasks that can wait that are third priority. Sometimes requests may come in-between, which changes the respective importance of tasks. I have to ascertain the effectiveness and efficiency of my work.

What do you enjoy most about what you do? The understanding of the data and transforming it into useful information is the most enjoyable part of my work. Being able to work on different projects with different teams gives me the exposure to the research process and its technicalities. It's in interacting with others that provides the variability and opens the doors to a world of knowledge.

Describe what excellence means to you.Excellence means 'quality', I think Excellence isn't about meeting the spec, it's about setting the spec. Excellence means that you're indispensable - this comes from being proactive, providing service that ultimately meets needs beyond the requested service.

Rahul Bet Rahul Bet Senior Data Analyst

How would you describe a typical day at DBM for you? I attend to the emails, view my calendar and my to-do list for the day and I decide the course of the day over a cup of coffee. The days vary: on a typical quiet day, I will be working on programming a CATI/online script, preparing sample OR doing the scripting for tables; to a typical busy day where I'm constantly communicating with the teams, or rigorously modifying filters and banners in my outputs.

What do you enjoy most about what you do? I enjoy the people I work with. It is a friendly and fun atmosphere and I enjoy getting into work each morning. I also like being challenged at the job, as there is so much to learn and explore, and each project is a new challenge.

Describe what excellence means to you.Excellence is an attitude; it's doing ordinary things extraordinarily well.
